Description: Collects performance monitoring data including bit error rate and latency on Net Insight Nimbra network equipment.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is NETI-PM-MIB?
This is a proprietary Net Insight MIB for performance monitoring on Nimbra transport network nodes, implementing trunk-interface, access-interface, and channel performance monitoring per the ITU-T G.826 error-performance methodology. It exposes a trunk-interface PM table covering administrative/operational status, current failure state, data-source identification, and enable flags for unavailable-time (UAT), threshold, and periodic-event alarms, plus a parallel access-interface PM group. It is strongly oriented toward monitoring hardware/protocol health: pmTifOperStatus and pmTifFailure directly expose interface faults, while the alarm-enable flags govern how G.826 error-performance alarms get raised for that interface. Because it implements G.826, it depends on that ITU-T standard's error-performance parameter definitions and complements Net Insight's other Nimbra MIBs for interface/circuit configuration. It is typically deployed on Net Insight Nimbra media/transport network nodes used by broadcasters and telecom operators for synchronized video/data transport over long-haul or metro links. Engineers can download the NETI-PM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NETI-PM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Net Insight Nimbra media/transport network node
Monitoring Examples
Polling pmTifTable's pmTifOperStatus and pmTifFailure for a trunk interface indexed by pmTifIndex reveals whether that transport interface is currently in a G.826 failure or unavailable-time state. Checking pmTifUatAlarmsEnabled and pmTifTresholdAlarmsEnabled confirms whether threshold-crossing alarms are configured to fire, and pmTifDataSourceName identifies which physical/logical circuit the counters belong to, useful for isolating which trunk is degrading when a G.826 error-second alarm arrives.
What Can Be Monitored
- trunk interface operational status
- interface failure/alarm state
- G.826 unavailable-time (UAT) alarm status
- threshold alarm enable state
- periodic event reporting status
- data source identification per channel

Unavailable time (UAT) defines a state where a service is unable to perform its normal task due to severe errors for a longer period. It begins at detection of ten consecutive SES events and ends at detection of ten consecutive non-SES events. In both cases, the 10s are considered part of unavailable respective available time and effects the visibility of G.826 PM events (they are delayed 10s) Entry and exit of UAT is declared by raising and clearing an UAT alarm (if enabled) |

Each 15m and 24h current register counter can be assigned a threshold value. When crossed, a threshold crossing alarm will be sent for the interval if enabled. Raised alarm will be cleared at end of a following fault free interval i.e. one with all interval counter values below their threshold values and with no UAT. Only one TC alarm per interval can be raised, regardless of how many thresholds have been crossed. |

RFC description
A proprietary MIB for performance monitoring of network elements, providing SNMP objects for tracking network performance metrics, latency, throughput, and link utilization.
Start monitoring Net Insight Nimbra media/transport network node (G.826 performance monitoring) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
