Description: Manages ITU-T Y.1731 Ethernet OAM fault management and performance monitoring on Cyan platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CYAN-Y1731-MIB?
CYAN-Y1731-MIB is a Cyan Inc. proprietary MIB implementing ITU-T Y.1731 Ethernet OAM and performance monitoring (OAMPM) on Cyan packet-optical platforms. It exposes Maintenance Entity Point (MEP) configuration, loss measurement (LM) and delay measurement (DM) transmission intervals, and enable flags for performance-monitoring features including one-way loss, two-way delay, and two-way jitter measurement, along with resulting LM data tables. It is used to monitor the operational health of Ethernet service connections by tracking frame loss ratio, delay, and jitter statistics gathered per MEP, which reveals degraded Ethernet paths, congestion, or connectivity faults before they cause a full service outage. It is directly dependent on the ITU-T Y.1731 standard for Ethernet OAM and typically complements standard CFM/802.1ag-style MEP concepts. It is deployed in carrier Ethernet and metro transport networks where Cyan/Ciena equipment provides Ethernet virtual connections requiring SLA-grade performance monitoring. Engineers can download the CYAN-Y1731-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CYAN-Y1731-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cyan/Ciena packet-optical transport chassis
- carrier Ethernet service edge/aggregation nodes
- Cyan Z-Series packet-optical transport platform (Cyan Inc. was acquired by Ciena in 2015)
Monitoring Examples
An operator configures cyanY1731MepConfigTable/cyanY1731MepConfigEntry entries, keyed by cyanY1731MepConfigShelfId, cyanY1731MepConfigModuleId, and cyanY1731MepConfigMepId, setting cyanY1731MepConfigLMTxInterval and cyanY1731MepConfigDMTxInterval to control how often loss and delay measurement frames are sent. Enabling cyanY1731MepConfigPmEnabled together with cyanY1731MepConfigOneWayLossEnabled, cyanY1731MepConfigTwoWayDelayEnabled, and cyanY1731MepConfigTwoWayJitterEnabled activates the specific performance counters of interest. Polling cyanY1731LMTable afterward surfaces measured loss statistics per MEP, letting an admin spot a service instance whose loss ratio has spiked above baseline.
What Can Be Monitored
- MEP configuration per shelf/module
- loss measurement (LM) transmit interval
- delay measurement (DM) transmit interval
- one-way loss / two-way delay / two-way jitter enablement
- measured loss statistics
