Description: Configures Data Center Bridging Capability Exchange (DCBX) TLV advertisement on Netgear DCB-capable switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is NETGEAR-DCBX-MIB?

NETGEAR-DCBX-MIB is a Netgear vendor MIB for configuring Data Center Bridging Capability Exchange (DCBX), a protocol layered on LLDP that lets DCB-capable switches negotiate lossless-Ethernet parameters such as priority-based flow control and enhanced transmission selection with connected peers. It exposes global DCBX agent configuration groups controlling how the switch advertises and negotiates DCB capabilities with neighboring devices. Its monitoring value is chiefly configuration-status oriented: administrators verify agentDcbxGroupGlobalConfGroup settings to confirm DCBX is correctly enabled and configured so that converged/lossless Ethernet features (used for iSCSI, FCoE, or similar storage-over-Ethernet traffic) negotiate properly with attached servers or storage devices, misconfiguration here can manifest as dropped or non-prioritized storage traffic. As a DCBX implementation it depends on the underlying LLDP protocol (and typically the switch's own LLDP MIB) to exchange the DCBX TLVs it configures. It is deployed on Netgear DCB-capable switches in small-to-mid-size data center environments running converged Ethernet/storage traffic. Engineers can download the NETGEAR-DCBX-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NETGEAR-DCBX-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Netgear DCB-capable Ethernet switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator reads agentDcbxGroupGlobalConfGroup to confirm DCBX negotiation is enabled on the switch before connecting a DCB-aware server or storage array, since without correct DCBX configuration the switch and endpoint won't agree on priority-flow-control classes for storage traffic. Because the sample objects available are limited to group-level configuration containers, granular per-port DCBX negotiation status objects are not shown here, but troubleshooting would typically follow disabled or misconfigured settings under this group.

What Can Be Monitored

  • DCBX agent global configuration status
  • DCBX enable/negotiation setting
