Category: Security

Description: Defines NBase packet filter and traffic classification rule objects.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is NBFLT-MIB?

NBFLT-MIB is an NBase enterprise MIB implementing the MAS Fault Manager for its Metro Access Switch product line, providing a structured framework for reporting device alarms and faults. It exposes agent run-state control, alarm formatting options for downstream systems, and a detailed alarm record structure carrying sequence number, timestamp, event code, event type, severity, originator, and multi-tenant/customer identifiers. As a fault/alarm-oriented MIB it is used explicitly for monitoring the operational health of the device by surfacing hardware and software faults as structured, severity-ranked alarm events rather than raw counters. It supports vendor-specific trap formats (Symposium, Cybele) for integration with particular fault-management systems, indicating dependency on those external NMS conventions. It is typically deployed in metro Ethernet/access network environments, often multi-tenant service-provider settings, where NBase MAS switches report faults centrally for real-time alarm correlation, and operators can download the NBFLT-MIB file to load it into their fault-management system for this purpose.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NBFLT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • NBase-Xyplex MAS (Metro Access Switch) platform

Monitoring Examples

An admin would check nbFltAgentRunningState to confirm the fault manager itself is active, then monitor nbFltAlarmSequence and nbFltAlarmTimeStamp alongside nbFltAlarmEventCode/nbFltAlarmEventType/nbFltAlarmEventSeverity to see the latest fault raised by the switch. A high-severity nbFltAlarmEventSeverity tied to a specific nbFltAlarmOriginator and nbFltAlarmCustomerID would let a multi-tenant operator immediately identify which customer's service is affected by a hardware or software fault, with nbFltTrapOnAlarm controlling whether it's pushed as an SNMP trap in real time.

What Can Be Monitored
