TEXTUAL-CONVENTION

What Is PAN-GLOBAL-TC?

PAN-GLOBAL-TC is a Palo Alto Networks textual-conventions MIB that defines shared data types and enumerations reused across the vendor's other firewall/Panorama MIB modules, rather than a MIB that itself exposes device data. It contains no runtime objects, tables, or notifications of its own, only type definitions intended for import. It has no direct monitoring role, but it underpins the correct interpretation of hardware and software status fields (such as HA state or session counters) defined in the other Palo Alto MIBs that import these conventions. Its notable dependency runs in the opposite direction: essentially all other Palo Alto Networks enterprise MIBs (e.g., PAN-COMMON-MIB, PAN-SYSTEM-MIB) import type definitions from this module, making it a foundational prerequisite rather than a leaf, and administrators troubleshooting decoded SNMP values will consult the PAN-GLOBAL-TC reference to correctly interpret enumerated fields reported by those companion MIBs. It is loaded wherever a Palo Alto Networks firewall or Panorama deployment is being monitored via SNMP.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PAN-GLOBAL-TC. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Palo Alto Networks firewall/Panorama platforms, entire PAN-OS product line (shared textual conventions)

Monitoring Examples

This module defines only textual conventions (enumerations and formatted types) with no object or table instances of its own, so there is no monitoring scenario to describe here. Its entire function is to be imported by other Palo Alto Networks MIBs so they share consistent type definitions.
