All MIBs › NT-Reference-MIB
Category: Nortel Enterprise Data
Description: Defines reference OID assignments and shared definitions for Nortel enterprise MIB module cross-references.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is NT-Reference-MIB?
NT-Reference-MIB is a Nortel structural/reference MIB that defines shared OID branch assignments (nt, meridian, experimental, modules, common, smp) used as common reference points across Nortel's broader enterprise MIB tree, rather than a functional monitoring module in its own right. Its content is limited to organizational OID definitions establishing where other Nortel MIB modules attach in the enterprise numbering scheme, with no runtime data objects, counters, or tables of its own. Consequently it has no direct monitoring use for hardware or software status; it exists purely so that other Nortel MIBs (Meridian PBX, SMP, and various common modules) can be consistently cross-referenced and located in the OID hierarchy. By definition every other Nortel MIB that roots under these branches depends on this reference module for its OID placement. It would be present wherever any Nortel enterprise device's MIB suite is loaded, most notably Nortel Meridian PBX/telephony systems, purely as a structural cross-reference rather than an operational data source. Engineers can download the NT-Reference-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NT-Reference-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Nortel enterprise devices generally, especially Meridian PBX/telephony systems
Monitoring Examples
This module contains only OID branch definitions (nt, meridian, experimental, modules, common, smp) and no instantiable objects or tables, so it cannot itself be polled for monitoring data; it functions purely as a namespace anchor for other Nortel MIBs. No realistic polling scenario applies.
