Category: Switch Management

Description: Monitors D-Link switch system identity, uptime, CPU load, and hardware status.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is MY-SYSTEM-MIB?

MY-SYSTEM-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from D-Link exposing core system identity and status objects for its managed switches. It belongs to the general system-management area of D-Link's switch product line, analogous to a vendor system MIB alongside the standard MIB-II system group. It exposes hardware/software/boot version identifiers, system control version, outbound (console) management settings, and overall switch layer/type information. Its most direct monitoring value is hardware and software status: it reports hardware power (mySystemHwPower) and fan (mySystemHwFan) status alongside software version fields (mySystemHwVersion, mySystemSwVersion, mySystemBootVersion), letting an administrator confirm the switch's power supply and fan health as well as which firmware/bootloader version is running, plus supports remote reset and parameter-save operations. It complements the standard MIB-II system group and depends on the base D-Link enterprise MIB framework, and is deployed on D-Link managed switches as a first point of contact for verifying hardware health and software version after deployment or upgrade. Engineers can download the MY-SYSTEM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MY-SYSTEM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • D-Link managed Ethernet switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll mySystemHwPower and mySystemHwFan to confirm the switch's power supply and cooling fan are in a normal operating state, flagging a fault if either reports an abnormal value. Checking mySystemSwVersion and mySystemBootVersion against the expected firmware release would confirm whether a software upgrade was applied correctly, while mySystemHwVersion and mySystemSysCtrlVersion identify the hardware revision. The mySystemReset object could trigger a remote reboot, and mySystemOutBandTimeout/mySystemTelnetTimeout govern management-session timeouts an admin would tune for security.

What Can Be Monitored
