All MIBs › MULTIPLE-BRIDGE-MIB
Category: Bridging, STP/RSTP
Description: Manages multiple bridge instance configuration and per-bridge port state.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is MULTIPLE-BRIDGE-MIB?
MULTIPLE-BRIDGE-MIB extends the standard IETF BRIDGE-MIB concept to devices that host more than one independent bridge instance (for example, multiple VLAN-isolated spanning-tree domains or virtual bridge contexts within a single chassis), managing configuration and per-bridge port state for each instance. Its data category centers on Layer 2 forwarding configuration and per-port bridge state across potentially many logical bridges rather than a single global bridge table as in the base BRIDGE-MIB. Its monitoring role is to let an administrator confirm the operational state of each individual bridge instance's ports (forwarding, blocking, disabled, etc.), which is a software/configuration status check relevant to detecting spanning-tree issues or misconfigured VLAN bridging on any one of the multiple bridge contexts. It is explicitly an extension of the standard BRIDGE-MIB (RFC 4188/1493) and depends on that base MIB's object and indexing conventions, adapted to a per-bridge-instance index. It is deployed on multi-bridge-capable network equipment such as multi-VLAN switches or devices hosting several independent bridging domains within one chassis. Engineers implementing or auditing this functionality typically reference the MULTIPLE-BRIDGE-MIB RFC/standard documentation for the authoritative specification.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MULTIPLE-BRIDGE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- multi-bridge-capable network switch (vendor-neutral extension of standard bridging, applicable to switches hosting multiple independent bridge instances)
Monitoring Examples
No sample objects were provided for this module in the available data, so a concrete per-instance polling scenario cannot be described without inventing unconfirmed object names; in practice such a MIB would be expected to expose a bridge-instance-indexed extension of the standard dot1dBasePortTable/dot1dStpPortTable structure, but the exact object names are not confirmed here.
