Category: Switch Management

Description: Defines third-generation management objects for Mellanox Technologies network devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is MELLANOX-MIB-3?

MELLANOX-MIB-3 is a third-generation Mellanox Technologies enterprise MIB defining general system management objects for newer Mellanox network devices, following the same structure as MELLANOX-MIB-2. It exposes system identity data (device type, serial number, software version, build info, node name) and a management process table tracking process name, status, and failure count. It supports software/process health monitoring in the same way as its predecessor, watching process status and failure counts for signs of a hung or repeatedly crashing management daemon, and using version fields for firmware inventory. It is a standalone enterprise MIB layered on the same mellanoxProducts/mellanoxMgmt subtree, extending rather than replacing the second-generation MIB's data model. It is deployed for general system health monitoring on current-generation Mellanox switches and adapters. Engineers can download the MELLANOX-MIB-3 file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MELLANOX-MIB-3. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Mellanox network device (third generation)

Monitoring Examples

Reading swVersion, buildInfo, and serialNumber inventories firmware and hardware identity on newer-generation devices. Walking procTable by procIndex and checking procStatus and procNumFailures reveals whether an internal management daemon is crashing or hung. A steadily increasing procNumFailures is a direct software health warning sign.

What Can Be Monitored

  • software version
  • serial number
  • node name
  • internal process status
  • process failure count
