What Is A3COM0025-STACK-UNIT-TYPES?

A3COM0025-STACK-UNIT-TYPES is a small 3Com-specific MIB that defines an enumerated set of unit-type identifiers, such as stackDistributedAgent, stackHub, stackSwitch, stackAppliance, and various dual-speed hub and switch models, used to identify the type of each physical unit in a 3Com stackable device chassis. Like the products MIB, it contains no counters of its own, serving instead as a type-identity/classification module referenced by other stacking-related MIBs. Its monitoring value is in hardware inventory and topology accuracy, since when a stack management MIB reports a unit's type using one of these enumerations, an admin can confirm the expected mix of hubs, switches, and appliances is physically present in the stack and detect an unexpected or unsupported unit type inserted into the chassis. It depends on and is referenced by other 3Com stack-management MIBs that use these type values as an object's syntax. It is deployed wherever 3Com stackable hub/switch chassis are used, to support accurate per-unit hardware identification. Engineers can download the A3COM0025-STACK-UNIT-TYPES file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in A3COM0025-STACK-UNIT-TYPES. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • 3Com stackable hub/switch chassis

Monitoring Examples

A stack-management MIB references this module's enumeration when reporting each slot's unit type; an admin polling that object and seeing a value of stackHub where a stackSwitch1100 was expected would immediately know the wrong unit type was inserted into that stack position. This type-checking helps catch physical hardware mismatches during stack expansion or replacement.
