Description: D-Link multicast filter MIB defining SNMP objects for configuring IP multicast group filtering on D-Link switch ports.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is MCAST-FILTER-MIB?

MCAST-FILTER-MIB ("Multicast Filter Common MIB") is a D-Link Corp. proprietary MIB, reused across multiple D-Link switch product lines (DES-3810, DGS-3700, DES-3528R2, and others), that models IP multicast group filtering configuration on switch ports and VLANs. Its core object, swMcastFilterProfileInfoTable, defines named multicast filter profiles (identified by an index and description) whose row lifecycle is managed via RowStatus, and companion tables (documented in the module's revision history) extend this to per-port and per-VLAN group membership, per-port/per-VLAN access control, maximum-group limits with configurable overflow actions, and parallel IPv6 variants of each of these tables. This lets an operator restrict which multicast groups a given port or VLAN is permitted to join and cap the number of simultaneous multicast groups a port can subscribe to, which is useful for preventing multicast flooding or unauthorized IPTV/streaming access on access-layer ports. It depends on DLINK-ID-REC-MIB for its enterprise OID placement and defines its own Ipv6Address textual convention for IPv6 filter variants. It is deployed on D-Link managed switches supporting IGMP/MLD snooping with filtering; administrators can download the MCAST-FILTER-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser for SNMP monitoring of these filter settings.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MCAST-FILTER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • D-Link managed switches (DES-3810, DGS-3700, DES-3528R2, and related product lines)

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls swMcastFilterProfileInfoTable and the associated per-port group table to confirm a port is restricted to an approved multicast profile, then checks the corresponding max-group table's action setting; a port whose current group count reaches its configured maximum with the action set to deny would explain why a client on that port failed to join an additional multicast stream.

What Can Be Monitored

  • multicast filter profile table entries
  • per-port and per-VLAN multicast group membership
  • per-port and per-VLAN access control entries
  • maximum-group limits and overflow action
  • IPv6 multicast filter table variants
