Category: Device Management

Description: Objects for monitoring the individual hardware components of a device managed under LMS (LAN Management Solution).

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is LMS-COMPONENT-MIB?

LMS-COMPONENT-MIB is a Lotus/IBM-developed SNMP MIB for monitoring individual software and hardware components of a Lotus LAN Management Solution (LMS)-managed messaging server, part of an early Lotus Notes/Domino server management scheme. It exposes objects describing switch/server identity (ID, name, version), operational and desired operational status, message store database and filesystem utilization, and SNA connectivity state. It is explicitly used to monitor hardware/software health of the managed component, surfacing uptime (lmsSwitchUpTime), last-change timestamps, operational status, and message-store storage utilization as key health indicators. The MIB is largely self-contained but conceptually mirrors standard operational-status conventions used across many enterprise SNMP MIBs, aligning with common network-management practice even without explicit MIB imports shown. Typical deployment context is an IBM/Lotus LAN Management Solution console polling Notes/Domino mail servers and their subordinate switch components for availability and storage capacity. Engineers can download the LMS-COMPONENT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in LMS-COMPONENT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Lotus/IBM LAN Management Solution server
  • Lotus Notes/Domino messaging server component

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll lmsSwitchOperStatus and lmsSwitchDesiredOperStatus to detect when a monitored switch/component has fallen out of its desired state, and check lmsSwitchLastChange to see how recently that happened. Polling lmsMsgStoreDatabaseUtilization and lmsMsgStoreFileSystemUtilization would reveal a mail/message store approaching capacity, a common precursor to mail delivery failures. lmsSwitchUpTime tracks how long the component has been running since last restart, and snaState exposes the health of any SNA gateway connectivity used by the LMS environment.

What Can Be Monitored

  • switch/component operational status
  • message store database utilization
  • message store filesystem utilization
  • component uptime
  • SNA connection state
  • last configuration/status change time
