What Is HPN-ICF-FC-NAME-SERVER-MIB?

HPN-ICF-FC-NAME-SERVER-MIB manages the Fibre Channel Name Server on HP Networking (H3C Comware-based) Fibre Channel/SAN switches, the fabric service responsible for registering and resolving device World Wide Names (WWNs) so hosts and storage can discover each other on the fabric. It exposes notification-enable controls for port login/logout events (hpnicfFcNsPortLoginNotifyEnable, hpnicfFcNsPortLogoutNotifyEnable) and objects reporting the local switch's WWN and the WWN of devices performing fabric login (hpnicfFcNsLocalSwitchWWN, hpnicfFcNsFloginPortWWN). Its monitoring role centers on fabric membership/software status: tracking device login/logout events lets an admin detect unexpected device disconnects or new device registrations on the SAN fabric, critical for diagnosing storage connectivity problems. It operates within the broader Fibre Channel standard's Name Server concept (FC-GS) but is a vendor-specific implementation without a direct IETF MIB dependency. It is deployed on HP Networking Fibre Channel SAN switches in storage area network environments connecting servers to shared storage. Engineers can download the HPN-ICF-FC-NAME-SERVER-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-FC-NAME-SERVER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP Networking Fibre Channel SAN switch

Monitoring Examples

A SAN admin monitoring hpnicfFcNsPortLoginNotifyEnable-driven traps alongside hpnicfFcNsFloginPortWWN can detect when a storage array or HBA unexpectedly logs out of the fabric, which combined with hpnicfFcNsLocalSwitchWWN helps pinpoint which switch and port lost the device registration, speeding root-cause analysis of a storage outage.

What Can Be Monitored

  • fabric port login/logout notifications
  • device WWN registration
  • local switch WWN
