Description: LeftHand Networks MIB for managing DNS client settings on LeftHand NUS (Network Storage Unit) storage appliances.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is LEFTHAND-NETWORKS-NUS-COMMON-DNS-MIB?
LEFTHAND-NETWORKS-NUS-COMMON-DNS-MIB is a private MIB from LeftHand Networks (later acquired by HP) for managing DNS client settings on LeftHand NUS (Network Storage Unit) iSCSI storage appliances. It exposes configuration data including the DNS operating mode, domain name, a table of configured nameserver addresses, and a table of DNS search suffixes, each with row-creation/deletion support via a standard row-status object. From a hardware/software status perspective this MIB is purely software/configuration-focused: it lets an administrator confirm the storage appliance's DNS resolver is correctly configured, verify the expected nameservers are present, and detect a misconfigured or missing DNS entry that could cause name-resolution failures affecting replication, management, or authentication services on the storage node. It is a self-contained module built on standard SNMP table/RowStatus conventions rather than depending on another networking MIB. It is deployed on LeftHand Networks (HP StorageWorks) NUS iSCSI SAN storage appliances in enterprise storage networks. Engineers can download the LEFTHAND-NETWORKS-NUS-COMMON-DNS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in LEFTHAND-NETWORKS-NUS-COMMON-DNS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- LeftHand Networks (HP StorageWorks) NUS iSCSI storage appliance
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll dnsNameserverCount and iterate the dnsNameserverTable/dnsNameserverEntry rows (indexed by dnsIndex) to confirm each dnsServer address is a reachable, correct nameserver, with dnsRowStatus indicating whether an entry is active. Checking dnsMode and dnsDomainName confirms the appliance's DNS resolution mode and domain suffix are set as expected. If the dnsSuffixTable/dnsSuffixEntry rows are missing an expected search suffix, unqualified hostname lookups from the storage appliance (e.g., to a replication partner) could fail, which this MIB would help diagnose.
What Can Be Monitored
- DNS mode
- domain name
- configured nameserver addresses
- nameserver row status
- DNS search suffixes
