Description: Juniper Networks MIB for managing SONET UNI (User-Network Interface) parameters and performance on Juniper E-series routers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Juniper-UNI-SONET-MIB?

Juniper-UNI-SONET-MIB is a Juniper Networks enterprise MIB providing additional managed objects for SONET User-Network Interfaces on E-series routers, supplementing configuration attributes that are absent from or read-only in the standard SONET-MIB. It exposes per-medium configuration such as medium type, loopback settings, timing source, circuit identifier, and alarm trigger/delay parameters, along with SONET path capability attributes like channelization. Its monitoring value is heavily fault/hardware-oriented: juniSonetMediumTriggerAlarms and juniSonetMediumTriggerDelay govern how the interface reports SONET line/path alarms, and juniSonetMediumTimingSource reveals whether the interface is deriving clock from an internal or line-recovered source, both critical to detecting physical-layer SONET transport issues. It explicitly depends on and extends the standard IETF SONET-MIB, adding Juniper-specific configuration on top of that base standard's state and performance objects. It is deployed on Juniper E-series routers with SONET/SDH transport interfaces at carrier or enterprise WAN edges. Engineers can download the Juniper-UNI-SONET-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Juniper-UNI-SONET-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Juniper Networks E-series broadband routers with SONET/SDH interfaces

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll juniSonetMediumTable entries to check juniSonetMediumTimingSource and confirm each SONET interface is using the expected clock source, since a mismatched timing source can cause frame slips. juniSonetMediumTriggerAlarms and juniSonetMediumTriggerDelay would be reviewed together with alarm state from the standard SONET-MIB to tune how quickly the interface declares a line alarm. juniSonetPathCapabilityTable's juniSonetPathChannelized attribute would be checked to confirm whether a given path is channelized as expected for the provisioned service, and juniSonetMediumLoopbackConfig would be inspected during circuit testing to verify no unintended loopback is active.

What Can Be Monitored

  • SONET timing source
  • medium loopback configuration
  • alarm trigger enablement and delay
  • circuit identifier
  • path channelization status
  • path capability removal flag
