What Is Juniper-QoS-MIB?

Juniper-QoS-MIB is a Juniper Networks enterprise MIB for managing and monitoring Quality of Service policies, queues, schedulers, and traffic shaping on E-series routers. It primarily exposes configuration and capacity data: maximum traffic classes, queue lengths, scheduler burst sizes, and counts of configured QoS profiles, drop profiles, and interfaces using QoS. Its monitoring value is largely capacity/utilization-oriented rather than fault-oriented, letting an operator track how many QoS profiles, queues, and interfaces are provisioned against platform maximums (juniQosMaxTrafficClass, juniQosMaxQueueLength) to catch approaching resource exhaustion before it causes traffic problems. It is a self-contained enterprise MIB but conceptually aligns with generic QoS/DiffServ concepts found in IETF DIFFSERV-MIB style modules. It is deployed on Juniper E-series broadband edge routers enforcing per-subscriber or per-service traffic shaping and prioritization. Engineers can download the Juniper-QoS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Juniper-QoS-MIB. An operator would poll juniQosProfileCount and juniQosInterfaceCount to track how many QoS profiles and QoS-enabled interfaces are currently active, comparing against juniQosMaxQosProfileRules to see how close the router is to its configured limits. juniQosQueueProfileCount and juniQosSchedulerProfileCount would be checked together to verify queue and scheduler provisioning matches expected service design. A rising juniQosDropProfileCount alongside falling available headroom could prompt review of shaping policy before congestion-related drops increase.
