Description: Marvell Semiconductor Storm Control Threshold (SCT) MIB providing broadcast, multicast, and unknown unicast storm suppression objects.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is MARVELL-SCT-MIB?
This is a Marvell Semiconductor private MIB for Storm Control Threshold (SCT) management, controlling how a switch built on Marvell switching silicon suppresses excessive broadcast, multicast, or unknown-unicast traffic that could otherwise overwhelm the CPU or flood the network. It exposes configuration data governing storm control behavior, notably CPU-rate-based suppression settings (rlSctCpuRateEnabled, rlSctCpuRate) that limit how much of the switch's CPU processing capacity storm traffic is allowed to consume. Its monitoring value is protecting control-plane/CPU health, verifying storm control is enabled where expected and that the configured CPU rate limit is appropriate, since a disabled or misconfigured storm-control setting is a common root cause of a switch's management CPU becoming unresponsive during a broadcast storm. It is a Marvell chipset-level private extension used by switch vendors building on Marvell silicon rather than a formal IETF standard. It is deployed on Marvell-silicon-based managed switches across enterprise and small/medium business networks as a control-plane protection mechanism. Engineers can download the MARVELL-SCT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MARVELL-SCT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Marvell-silicon-based managed switch (various OEM platforms)
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would check rlSctCpuRateEnabled to confirm CPU-rate-based storm control is active on the switch, then check rlSctCpuRate to see the configured ceiling on CPU cycles storm traffic is permitted to consume. If a switch is experiencing management-plane slowness during periods of high broadcast traffic, finding rlSctCpuRateEnabled disabled would immediately explain the issue and point to enabling it as the fix. Beyond these two CPU-rate objects, no further runtime objects were captured for this MIB.
What Can Be Monitored
- storm control (CPU rate limiting) enabled status
- configured CPU rate threshold for storm suppression
