Description: Provides managed objects for Distance Vector Multicast Routing Protocol (DVMRP) on Juniper Networks E-series routers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Juniper-DVMRP-MIB?

Juniper-DVMRP-MIB is a Juniper enterprise MIB for managing the Distance Vector Multicast Routing Protocol (DVMRP) on Juniper E-series routers, a multicast routing technology used to build multicast distribution trees between routers. It exposes administrative and operational state for DVMRP globally and per-interface, multicast route limits, prune behavior flags, and access-control lists that restrict which neighbors or routes are accepted. From a monitoring perspective it primarily reveals software/protocol health rather than physical hardware: whether DVMRP and multicast routing are administratively enabled, whether route limits are being approached (via route-hog notifications), and neighbor-level distance/ACL configuration that affects multicast reachability. It is a vendor extension used alongside standard multicast/IGMP MIBs rather than a replacement for them. It is deployed on Juniper E-series routers acting as multicast-capable edge or core routers in IPTV or enterprise multicast deployments. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the Juniper-DVMRP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Juniper-DVMRP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Juniper Networks E-series (ERX) broadband routers running JUNOSe

Monitoring Examples

An administrator checks juniDvmrpAdminState and juniDvmrpMcastAdminState to confirm DVMRP and multicast routing are enabled on the router, and watches for a juniDvmrpRouteHogNotification trap indicating juniDvmrpRouteLimit has been exceeded by an overly chatty multicast source. Polling juniDvmrpAclDistNbrTable/juniDvmrpAclDistNbrEntry (juniDvmrpAclDistNbrIfIndex, juniDvmrpAclDistNbrDistance, juniDvmrpAclDistNbrNbrListName) verifies per-neighbor distance and access-list policy applied on each DVMRP interface. Unexpected changes in juniDvmrpS32PrunesOnly or juniDvmrpUnicastRouting settings would explain sudden shifts in multicast tree pruning behavior.

What Can Be Monitored

  • DVMRP admin/oper state
  • multicast routing enable state
  • route-hog/route-limit notifications
  • per-neighbor ACL distance settings
  • prune-only mode setting
  • unicast routing integration status
