Description: Juniper Networks MIB providing charging statistics and data records management for mobile subscriber sessions on Juniper mobile gateways.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is JUNIPER-MOBILITY-CHARGING-MIB?

JUNIPER-MOBILITY-CHARGING-MIB is Juniper Networks' implementation of the Mobility Charging model for the Packet Data Network Gateway (PGW) in 3GPP LTE networks and the Gateway GPRS Support Node (GGSN) in 3GPP 3G networks. It exposes charging and data-record generation statistics, including per-group charging-file statistics, local policy server (LPS) and traffic shaping policy (TSP) stats, per-peer statistics, and line-card storage usage for charging files. It functions primarily as a software/operational-status monitor for the mobile-gateway's charging subsystem — tracking whether charging files are accumulating faster than they can be offloaded and whether line-card storage space is running low — rather than exposing any physical hardware sensor. It builds on Juniper's broader jnxMbg (Mobile Gateway) MIB family for PGW/GGSN and implicitly on 3GPP charging standards that define the underlying charging data records. It is deployed by mobile operators on Juniper MX-series or dedicated mobile-gateway platforms serving as PGW/GGSN in LTE/3G core networks, where engineers load the module into a JUNIPER-MOBILITY-CHARGING-MIB MIB Browser to inspect these charging objects directly.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in JUNIPER-MOBILITY-CHARGING-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Juniper MX-series mobile gateway (PGW/GGSN)

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll jnxMbgPgwCgLcStorageAvailSpace and jnxMbgPgwCgLpsStorageAvailSpace to ensure line-card storage for charging files isn't filling up, and jnxMbgPgwCgFilesOnLcStorage / jnxMbgPgwCgLpsFilesOnLcStorage to see how many charging data record files are queued for offload. Rows in jnxMbgPgwCgPeerStatsTable and jnxMbgPgwCgGlobalStatsTable reveal per-peer and global charging-record volume, while jnxMbgPgwCgCgfGroupsStatsTable breaks statistics down by charging group. A steadily climbing file count combined with shrinking available storage would warn of a stalled charging-file export pipeline before storage fills and charging records are lost.

What Can Be Monitored

  • charging file counts on line-card storage
  • available line-card storage space
  • per-peer charging statistics
  • per-charging-group statistics
  • global charging statistics
  • local policy server (LPS) statistics

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using jnxMbgPgwCgCgfGrpDRTReqTx OID:

Select a Juniper MX-series mobile gateway (PGW/GGSN charging subsystem) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type jnxMbgPgwCgCgfGrpDRTReqTx into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the total number of the DRT (Detailed Record Time) request transmitted for the CGF group. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
