What Is JUNIPER-MBG-SMI?

JUNIPER-MBG-SMI is a Structure-of-Management-Information (SMI) module from Juniper Networks that simply defines the top-level enterprise OID subtree under which Juniper's Mobile Broadband Gateway MIB modules - covering PGW/GGSN and SGW mobile-core gateway functions, plus Junos Space Mobility management objects - are registered. Like other SMI modules it contains only OID assignment nodes and no runtime data objects of its own. The JUNIPER-MBG-SMI reference is consulted mainly to locate the correct OID prefix before working with the actual PGW/GGSN/SGW data MIBs. Consequently it plays no direct role in reporting hardware/software status; that is left to the actual mobile-gateway data MIBs registered beneath it, and to the Junos Space Mobility notification/objects subtrees which likely carry alarms and state for mobility-management components. It depends on Juniper's overall enterprise SMI numbering scheme and the Junos Space Mobility management framework for context. It would appear in mobile operator networks running Juniper mobile broadband gateway platforms (PGW/GGSN/SGW) managed via Junos Space.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in JUNIPER-MBG-SMI. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Juniper Networks Mobile Broadband Gateway (PGW/GGSN/SGW) platforms

Monitoring Examples

This module contains only OID registration nodes (jnxMobileGatewayPgwGgsn, jnxMobileGatewaySgw, jnxJunosSpaceMobilityObjects, jnxJunosSpaceMobilityNotifications) rather than data tables, so it has no monitoring scenario of its own; runtime PGW/GGSN/SGW status and mobility-management notifications would be defined in the actual data MIBs registered under this SMI tree.
