Description: Provides IPv6 managed objects for address assignment, neighbor discovery, and routing statistics on Juniper Networks routing platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is JUNIPER-IPv6-MIB?

JUNIPER-IPv6-MIB is a Juniper Networks enterprise MIB (jnxMibs 11) that extends the standard IPV6-MIB's ipv6IfEntry with additional IPv6 traffic-statistics counters for Juniper routing platforms. Under jnxIpv6Stats it defines a global-statistics group (jnxIpv6GlobalStats) with Counter64 objects covering the IPv6 forwarding path end to end — jnxIpv6StatsReceives, jnxIpv6StatsDelivers, and jnxIpv6StatsForwards for basic packet flow; jnxIpv6StatsTooShorts, jnxIpv6StatsTooSmalls, jnxIpv6StatsBadOptions, and jnxIpv6StatsBadVersions for malformed-packet detection; jnxIpv6StatsFragments, jnxIpv6StatsFragDrops, jnxIpv6StatsFragTimeOuts, and jnxIpv6StatsReasmOKs for fragmentation/reassembly outcomes; and jnxIpv6StatsOutDiscards/jnxIpv6StatsOutNoRoutes for output-side failures — alongside sibling groups jnxIcmpv6GlobalStats and jnxIpv6IfStats for ICMPv6 and per-interface counters. Because these are all cumulative Counter64 objects rather than configuration state, the MIB's monitoring value is purely in trend/rate analysis of IPv6 traffic health and forwarding-path errors. It depends on the standard IPV6-MIB for the interface table it extends and on JUNIPER-SMI for its enterprise OID root. It is deployed on Juniper routers and switches running IPv6, and the JUNIPER-IPv6-MIB MIB is the reference module for these Juniper-specific IPv6 traffic counters.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in JUNIPER-IPv6-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Juniper Networks routers and switches running IPv6 (JUNOS-based platforms)

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls jnxIpv6StatsOutNoRoutes and jnxIpv6StatsOutDiscards over time to watch for growing IPv6 forwarding failures, and cross-checks jnxIpv6StatsFragDrops and jnxIpv6StatsFragTimeOuts; a rising jnxIpv6StatsOutNoRoutes counter alongside stable jnxIpv6StatsReceives would point to a missing or withdrawn IPv6 route rather than an inbound traffic problem.

What Can Be Monitored

  • IPv6 packets received/delivered/forwarded counters
  • malformed packet counters (too-short, bad option, bad version)
  • fragmentation and reassembly counters
  • output discard and no-route counters
  • ICMPv6 global statistics
  • per-interface IPv6 statistics

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using jnxIpv6StatsReceives OID:

Select a Juniper Networks router/switch running IPv6 (JUNOS-based platform) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type jnxIpv6StatsReceives into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. The total number of IPv6 packets received. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter64-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
