Description: Defines managed objects for IP unicast and multicast forwarding table management on Juniper Networks routing platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is JUNIPER-IPFORWARD-MIB?

JUNIPER-IPFORWARD-MIB is a Juniper Networks enterprise MIB providing extensions to the standard IETF IP-FORWARD-MIB for IP unicast and multicast forwarding table management on Juniper routing platforms. It exposes Juniper-specific augmentations to CIDR and Inet CIDR route tables, most notably tunnel-name attributes tied to individual routes. Its monitoring value lies in software/configuration status of the routing engine's forwarding tables, letting operators see which routes are associated with tunnel interfaces (e.g., for MPLS, GRE, or similar tunneling) as part of route-table health checks rather than exposing hardware sensors. The module's data has directly related entries in the standard mib-2 ipForward MIB, so it is meant to be read jointly with that IETF-standard table rather than independently. It is typically deployed on Juniper routers where tunnel-based route resolution needs to be correlated with standard IP forwarding information for network operations monitoring. Engineers can download the JUNIPER-IPFORWARD-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in JUNIPER-IPFORWARD-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Juniper Networks routers

Monitoring Examples

An administrator polling jnxIpCidrRouteTable or jnxInetCidrRouteTable would cross-reference entries by route destination/prefix with the standard ipCidrRouteTable/inetCidrRouteTable to see the associated jnxIpCidrRouteTunnelName or jnxInetCidrRouteTunnelName for a given route. Finding an unexpected or missing tunnel name value for a route that should be riding a specific tunnel would reveal a misconfigured or torn-down tunnel affecting IP forwarding. This makes the MIB useful for diagnosing routing anomalies tied specifically to tunneled paths on Juniper routers.

What Can Be Monitored

  • CIDR route tunnel association
  • Inet CIDR route tunnel association
  • IP unicast forwarding table entries
  • IP multicast forwarding table entries
