Category: Domain: Security, VPN and Security

Description: InterSeptor network security appliance MIB providing SNMP objects for intrusion detection and traffic monitoring on perimeter devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is InterSeptor-MIB?

InterSeptor-MIB is the enterprise MIB for the InterSeptor line of network security/firewall appliances (marketed under the Jacarta/webAppliance product branding), providing objects for device identification, configuration, and traffic monitoring on perimeter security devices. It exposes identity data (manufacturer, model, agent software version, device name), network/IP configuration (address, gateway, subnet mask), and time synchronization settings including NTP server and sync status. Its monitoring emphasis includes confirming the software version in use (inSeptIdentAgentSoftwareVersion) for patch/vulnerability tracking and verifying the device's clock is properly synced via NTP, both important for security-appliance integrity and accurate log correlation. It is a largely self-contained vendor MIB, though its date/time and IP configuration objects parallel concepts in standard system/IP MIBs. It is deployed on InterSeptor perimeter security/intrusion-detection appliances protecting enterprise network boundaries. Engineers can download the InterSeptor-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in InterSeptor-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • InterSeptor/Jacarta network security appliance

Monitoring Examples

An administrator checks inSeptIdentAgentSoftwareVersion against inSeptConfigMibVersion to confirm the appliance is running an expected, patched firmware level. inSeptConfigTimeFromNtp and inSeptConfigNtpIpAddress are polled to verify the device's clock discipline is functioning, since a security appliance with drifted time can produce log timestamps that don't correlate with other systems during an incident investigation. inSeptConfigIpAddress, inSeptConfigGateway, and inSeptConfigSubnetMask are checked to confirm the management interface configuration hasn't drifted from the documented baseline.

What Can Be Monitored

  • device identity and software version
  • management IP/gateway/subnet configuration
  • system date and time
  • NTP synchronization status
  • NTP server address
