What Is ITOUCH-CHARACTER-MIB?
ITOUCH-CHARACTER-MIB is an iTouch Communications enterprise MIB for managing character-mode/serial console access devices, but its sample objects reveal it also covers environmental and power-outlet management typical of console-server/PDU-style hardware. It exposes contact-closure/alarm inputs, controllable power outlets (with on/off and reboot control, naming, and redundancy status), and temperature/humidity sensor data. Its core value is hardware status and control monitoring: reading temperature and humidity from basicTemperatureHumiditySensor, tracking whether a power outlet is on, off, or in a redundant configuration, and watching contact-closure alarm inputs for external fault conditions like an open door or water sensor. Monitoring Examples
An administrator polls basicPowerOutletTable (basicPowerOutletEntry) to check basicPowerOutletOnOff per basicPowerOutletName, and can invoke basicPowerOutletReboot to power-cycle a hung device attached to a specific outlet. basicContactClosureOrAlarmInputTable is watched for a triggered alarm input indicating an open cabinet door or leak sensor. basicTemperatureHumiditySensor readings, referenced against basicTemperatureUnits, are tracked to catch a rack overheating before attached equipment is damaged.
