What Is IPMS-MIB?

IPMS-MIB is a vendor MIB for an IP management system, appearing to originate from a switch/appliance platform, providing SNMP objects for tracking dynamic IP address (DIP) port assignments and related policy-management parameters across VLANs and slot/port hardware locations. It exposes data linking IP addresses to destination VLANs, VLAN masks, and physical slot/port/port-type/port-instance identifiers, plus general and statistics groups and policy-management parameters. Its monitoring focus is largely on software/configuration state -- confirming IP-to-port-to-VLAN bindings are correct and that statistics counters (via ipmsZeroStatsGroup) can be reset -- rather than on physical hardware health per se, though the slot/port identifiers tie state back to specific hardware locations on a chassis. No explicit dependency on other MIBs is evident from the available extract. Typical deployment is a modular chassis switch or access device where IP address allocation needs to be tracked per slot and port, as documented in the IPMS-MIB MIB reference.

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll ipmsDIPAddressPortTable/ipmsDIPAddressPortEntry to see which ipmsDIPAddress is bound to which ipmsDIPSlotNumber, ipmsDIPPortNumber, and ipmsDIPPortType/ipmsDIPPortInstance, useful for tracing which physical port a given IP address is currently associated with. Checking ipmsDIPDstVlan and ipmsDIPDstVlanMask against expected VLAN assignments would reveal misconfigured or drifted VLAN bindings. ipmsVersion and ipmsState would be checked first to confirm the management subsystem itself is running the expected version and is operational.
