Category: IP and Core Protocols, Vendor: Lucent/Ascend

Description: Lucent/Avaya IP extensions MIB providing proprietary SNMP objects extending standard IP MIB with additional routing platform statistics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is IP-EXTENSION-MIB?

IP-EXTENSION-MIB is a proprietary Lucent/Avaya module, part of the Cajun family of routing platform MIBs, that supplements the standard IP MIB with additional vendor-specific objects for IPv4 handling on Cajun switches and routers. It generally exposes extended routing and protocol-level statistics that go beyond what MIB-II's ip group provides, filling gaps the vendor felt were operationally important. In practice it is used to check the software-level health of the IP stack on the device, such as counters that reveal packet processing anomalies, rather than physical hardware sensors. It builds directly on the standard IP MIB (RFC 1213/2011) and is meant to be polled alongside it rather than standalone. It would typically be deployed on legacy Lucent/Avaya Cajun-branded switches and routers still running enterprise campus or WAN environments. Engineers can download the IP-EXTENSION-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IP-EXTENSION-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Lucent/Avaya Cajun switches
  • Cajun routers

Monitoring Examples

No object or table names were available in the source extract for this module, so a concrete polling scenario cannot be grounded in real identifiers; the module description only confirms it as a 'Cajun Private IP version 4 mib extensions' supplementing standard IP MIB counters. An admin would typically still poll it alongside ipInReceives/ipOutRequests-style counters to catch IP-layer anomalies specific to the Cajun platform. Without sample object names, specifics of table structure cannot be responsibly inferred.
