What Is IP-EXTENSION-MIB?

IP-EXTENSION-MIB is a proprietary Lucent/Avaya module, part of the Cajun family of routing platform MIBs, that supplements the standard IP MIB with additional vendor-specific objects for IPv4 handling on Cajun switches and routers. It generally exposes extended routing and protocol-level statistics that go beyond what MIB-II's ip group provides, filling gaps the vendor felt were operationally important. In practice it is used to check the software-level health of the IP stack on the device, such as counters that reveal packet processing anomalies, rather than physical hardware sensors. It builds directly on the standard IP MIB (RFC 1213/2011) and is meant to be polled alongside it rather than standalone. It would typically be deployed on legacy Lucent/Avaya Cajun-branded switches and routers still running enterprise campus or WAN environments. Engineers can download the IP-EXTENSION-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
