Category: Vendor: ARRIS, Vendor: Verilink

Description: Verilink IPAD IP startup MIB providing SNMP objects for IP address initialization and boot configuration parameters.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is IPAD-IPSTART-MIB?

This is Verilink's proprietary IPAD IP startup MIB, part of the vendor's "hbu"/"ipad" (IP Access Device) product OID tree, focused on PPP-based WAN link startup and initialization. It exposes PPP link-establishment state per service, including LCP (Link Control Protocol) negotiation parameters and state-change history. It is heavily used for monitoring the software/protocol status of the WAN link, tracking LCP state, state-change counts, and negotiated parameters (MRU, authentication protocol, magic number) to confirm the link came up correctly during boot/startup. It builds on the standard PPP/LCP protocol model even though implemented as a proprietary vendor table. It is deployed on Verilink IPAD IP access/WAN routers during PPP link initialization and diagnostics, often after an IPAD-IPSTART-MIB download to load the module into a MIB browser for troubleshooting.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IPAD-IPSTART-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Verilink IPAD IP access devices (WAN routers)

Monitoring Examples

ipadPPPStartTable/ipadPPPStartTableEntry, keyed by ipadPPPStartService, exposes ipadPPPStartLCPState and ipadPPPStartLCPStateTime, letting an admin see how long the link has been in its current LCP state and how many times it has changed via ipadPPPStartLCPStateChanges. Polling ipadPPPStartLCPAuthProtocol and ipadPPPStartLCPMagicNumber alongside ipadPPPStartLCPMRU helps confirm negotiated PPP parameters; frequent LCP state changes would indicate an unstable WAN link failing to establish PPP.

What Can Be Monitored

  • PPP LCP state and state duration
  • LCP state change count
  • negotiated MRU
  • authentication protocol
  • link quality protocol
  • magic number
