Category: Vendor: Intel

Description: Intel Wired for Management (WFM) MIB providing SNMP objects for desktop management interface (DMI) and alerting features.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is INTEL-WFM-MIB?

INTEL-WFM-MIB implements Intel's Wired for Management (WFM) initiative, a 1990s-era industry effort (aligned with the Desktop Management Interface, DMI) to give PCs and workstations remote manageability and alerting capability over the network. As represented here, the module is very sparse, defining only trap-related objects — a trap type and trap detail string — used to signal DMI-originated management events via SNMP. This makes it a fault/alert-notification module rather than one exposing rich state tables: it is meant to carry alerts (such as those DMI raises for hardware problems like a failed fan, chassis intrusion, or POST failure) upward to an SNMP manager, rather than let an operator poll ongoing counters. It is tightly coupled to Intel's DMI framework, translating DMI indications into SNMP traps rather than functioning as a standalone data model. It was deployed on Intel-managed desktop/workstation hardware in an era when DMI/WFM was used for remote out-of-band hardware alerting before more modern IPMI/Redfish approaches became standard, though an INTEL-WFM-MIB download is still occasionally needed to support legacy DMI-based alerting on older fleets.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in INTEL-WFM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Intel-managed desktop PC/workstation (DMI/WFM-enabled)

Monitoring Examples

A management station would primarily consume this module's traps rather than poll tables: wfmTrapType identifies the category of DMI-originated event (for example a hardware or BIOS-level alert), while wfmTrapDetails carries the descriptive text of that specific alert. There are no runtime status tables defined among the available sample objects, so ongoing polling for counters such as temperature or fan speed is not supported by this module directly — that data would come from the underlying DMI agent that generates these traps.
