Category: Routing Protocols, Technology: Multicast, Vendor: Intel
Description: Intel IP multicast router MIB providing SNMP objects for multicast routing table, PIM, and IGMP management.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is INTEL-IP-MULTICAST-ROUTER-MIB?
INTEL-IP-MULTICAST-ROUTER-MIB is an Intel vendor-private MIB (1998) that defines management information for a system acting as a DVMRP (Distance Vector Multicast Routing Protocol) IP multicast router, registered under mib2ext.32 as ipmrouter. It exposes a global confMaxDvmrpRoutes limit and a confIfTable, indexed by confIfIndex, whose entries configure confIfMCRouteProto (enable/disable multicast routing per link), confIfIgmpQueryInterval and confIfIgmpRobustness for IGMP host-membership queries, and confIfDvmrpMetric/confIfDvmrpUnreachableMetric governing DVMRP route cost and unreachability thresholds, with confIfCreateObj/confIfDeleteObj providing an encoded row-creation mechanism for new interface entries. As a configuration-oriented MIB for a now-legacy multicast routing protocol, it is useful chiefly for auditing which interfaces have multicast routing enabled and whether IGMP/DVMRP timers are consistent across a multicast domain, rather than for exposing live traffic statistics. It depends only on INTEL-GEN-MIB for its mib2ext registration point and basic RFC-1212 conventions, and would have been deployed on Intel-based DVMRP multicast router products; administrators can download the INTEL-IP-MULTICAST-ROUTER-MIB file to review this legacy DVMRP configuration model.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in INTEL-IP-MULTICAST-ROUTER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Intel-based IP multicast routers/gateways implementing DVMRP (legacy Intel router platforms)
Monitoring Examples
An operator polls confIfTable to confirm confIfMCRouteProto is enabled(2) on all interfaces expected to carry multicast traffic and that confIfDvmrpMetric values are consistent with the network's cost design; an interface showing disabled(1) where multicast traffic is expected, or an outlying confIfDvmrpMetric, would indicate a misconfigured or unintentionally excluded multicast link.
What Can Be Monitored
- maximum DVMRP routes limit
- per-interface multicast routing protocol enable state
- IGMP query interval and robustness per interface
- DVMRP metric and unreachable-metric per interface
- interface table row create/delete actions
