Category: Device Management, Vendor: CA Technologies

Description: Provides CA Unicenter IT management framework objects for monitoring enterprise systems including fault, performance, and availability management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CAIMIB?

CAIMIB is a legacy vendor MIB from Computer Associates International (CA) modeling the CA-Unicenter systems management framework, dating to 1994 and structured per RFC-1212/RFC-1215 conventions. Its scalar objects under caiUnicenter expose CA-Unicenter's genlevel/version string, deployment configuration (client/server/standalone via caiUniCltSrv), license expiry, and the last event/message text (caiUniLstMsg), while caiUniStatTable lists which CA-Unicenter components are currently active. Its most extensive content is a large catalog of enterprise TRAP-TYPE definitions (caiUniSecuT1-8, caiUniScheT1-8, caiUniGuiT1, caiUniTapeT1-9, caiUniAsmT1-2, caiUniCciT1, caiUniEnfT1, newAlarm) covering security violations, workload/job-scheduling failures, GUI router crashes, tape-management errors, and CA90s service-layer shutdowns, each carrying caiUniLstMsg (or, for newAlarm, a fuller alarm record) as the trap payload. Because CA-Unicenter is itself a fault/performance/availability management umbrella product, this MIB primarily surfaces CA-Unicenter's own health and alerting state — component status, licensing, and its internal event stream — rather than raw hardware counters. It is deployed on hosts running the CA-Unicenter agent under the cai (enterprises.791) branch, and administrators can perform a CAIMIB download to load the file into their MIB browser or trap receiver for legacy CA-Unicenter environments.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CAIMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • CA (Computer Associates) Unicenter systems management agent hosts

Monitoring Examples

An operator subscribes to caiUniSecuT3/caiUniScheT4 traps and polls caiUniStatTable to see which CA-Unicenter components are active; a newAlarm trap carrying a critical alarmSeverity alongside a rising alarmCounts value would indicate an unresolved CA-Unicenter subsystem failure needing attention.

What Can Be Monitored

  • CA-Unicenter component active/status table
  • product version/genlevel and license expiry
  • client/server/standalone deployment mode
  • security violation and job-scheduling trap events
  • tape management and CA90s service traps
