Last Updated: 2001-10-03
Category: IETF Standards, Storage
Description: Manages InfiniBand fabric topology and link performance statistics per IETF standards.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is INFINIBAND-MIB?
INFINIBAND-MIB is an IETF-standard, vendor-neutral MIB module defining managed objects and textual conventions for managing InfiniBand fabric devices, the high-speed interconnect technology commonly used in HPC clusters and storage area networks. Although no sample objects were available for this module, standards-track InfiniBand MIBs of this kind typically cover fabric topology (nodes, ports, links), per-port link state and speed/width, and performance/error counters for the InfiniBand switch fabric. It would generally be used for monitoring hardware link status (port up/down, negotiated link speed/width) and fault conditions (symbol errors, link downed counts) on InfiniBand switches and host channel adapters rather than general-purpose CPU/memory metrics. As an IETF standards MIB it aligns with and complements other IETF network-management standards for interconnect fabrics. It is typically deployed in high-performance computing clusters, storage fabrics, and data centers using InfiniBand as a low-latency interconnect, with the INFINIBAND-MIB RFC defining the standard object set implemented across these vendor-neutral deployments.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in INFINIBAND-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- InfiniBand switches
- InfiniBand host channel adapters (HCAs)
- vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
Monitoring Examples
Without confirmed sample objects for this module, a specific object-level monitoring scenario cannot be described; in general, an InfiniBand fabric manager would poll per-port tables for link state, speed, and error counters to detect a degraded or down inter-switch link, but no concrete table/object names can be verified from the available data.
