Category: IP and Core Protocols, Technology: Multicast

Description: D-Link MIB for IGMPv3 (Internet Group Management Protocol version 3) management including source-specific multicast group membership.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is IGMPV3-MIB?

This IGMPV3-MIB (also referred to as the MGMD MIB) is a D-Link-implemented module combining RFC 2933 and RFC 3019, extended to cover IGMPv3 and MLDv2 source-filtering behavior on multicast-capable switches and routers. It exposes per-interface multicast querier configuration and status, including querier type, query interval, query max-response-time, robustness, protocol version in use, and how long the current querier has been up or until its role expires. The data is oriented toward monitoring the software/protocol status of the multicast routing function on a device — whether an interface is acting as IGMP querier, which protocol version it's negotiated to, and how stable that querier role has been (uptime versus expiry). It builds directly on the IETF's RFC 2933/3019 IGMP MIB framework, adding IGMPv3/MLDv2-specific semantics on top of that base. It is typically deployed on Layer 3 switches and routers in networks running IPTV or other multicast applications where administrators need visibility into multicast querier health and configuration. Administrators searching for igmpv3 snooping use this D-Link MIB to monitor IGMPv3 snooping state on D-Link switches via SNMP.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IGMPV3-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • D-Link managed Layer 3 switch/router
  • multicast-capable network switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll mgmdRouterInterfaceTable/mgmdRouterInterfaceEntry, keyed by ifIndex, to read mgmdRouterInterfaceQuerier and mgmdRouterInterfaceQuerierType and confirm which device is acting as IGMP querier on a given VLAN. mgmdRouterInterfaceQuerierUpTime and mgmdRouterInterfaceQuerierExpiryTime reveal whether the querier role is stable or about to fail over, which is useful when multicast streams unexpectedly interrupt. mgmdRouterInterfaceVersion confirms whether the interface has negotiated IGMPv3 versus an older version, and mgmdRouterInterfaceStatus shows whether the row/interface is active.

What Can Be Monitored

  • IGMP querier status per interface
  • IGMP protocol version in use
  • query interval/max response time
  • querier uptime
  • querier role expiry time
  • robustness variable
