Category: ATM, Vendor: IBM

Description: IBM MIB for the IBM 2216 Nways Multiaccess Connector providing ATM and LAN emulation management objects.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is IBM2216-MIB?

This is IBM's private MIB for the IBM 2216 Nways Multiaccess Connector, a multiprotocol router/ATM-LAN-emulation platform from IBM's Nways networking line. It exposes hardware inventory and status data for the device's modular PCI adapter cards and their ports, along with a mapping between physical ports and standard interface indices. Its emphasis is clearly on hardware status monitoring: each PCI adapter's type and operational status are tracked per slot, letting an operator detect a failed, missing, or degraded adapter card in a specific chassis slot. It complements the standard IF-MIB by mapping physical slot/port identifiers to ifIndex values, so interface-level statistics from IF-MIB can be correlated back to a specific piece of hardware. It was deployed on IBM 2216 routers used as multiprotocol WAN/ATM aggregation points in enterprise networks during the mid-to-late 1990s and early 2000s. Engineers can download the IBM2216-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IBM2216-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • IBM 2216 Nways Multiaccess Connector

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll ibm2216PCIAdapTable/ibm2216PCIAdapEntry, indexed by ibm2216PCIAdapSlotNum, to read ibm2216PCIAdapType and ibm2216PCIAdapOperStatus for each installed adapter card, immediately spotting a card reporting a down or failed operational status. ibm2216GraphicTable/ibm2216GraphicEntry maps ibm2216GraphicSlotNum and ibm2216GraphicPortNum to ibm2216GraphicifIndex, letting the admin correlate a specific physical port with its IF-MIB interface counters to diagnose whether a reported link problem stems from the port itself or the adapter card as a whole.

What Can Be Monitored

  • PCI adapter operational status
  • adapter type per slot
  • physical port to interface index mapping
