All MIBs › IBM-SYSTEM-MEMORY-MIB
Category: Domain: Server Hardware, Vendor: IBM
Description: IBM MIB for monitoring memory subsystem configuration and error statistics on IBM server systems.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is IBM-SYSTEM-MEMORY-MIB?
This IBM-proprietary MIB, part of the same IBM System hardware family, monitors the physical memory subsystem of IBM servers. It exposes a physical memory table describing each installed memory module's active state, error condition, power state, form factor, data/total width, and memory type/type detail. It is a hardware status and inventory MIB: it lets an operator see whether a memory module is powered on and functioning, whether it has reported an error, and its detailed physical characteristics. There is no apparent dependency on standard IETF MIBs; it is IBM proprietary and typically paired with the LMSENSOR and CPU MIBs from the same family for full server hardware health monitoring. It is commonly deployed alongside IBM's systems-management agent on Power/System x rack servers to detect failing or degraded memory modules before they cause a system crash. Engineers can download the IBM-SYSTEM-MEMORY-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IBM-SYSTEM-MEMORY-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- IBM System x / Power series rack or blade server
Monitoring Examples
A monitoring script walks ibmSystemPhysicalMemoryTable keyed on ibmSystemPhysicalMemoryKeyIndex and checks ibmSystemPhysicalMemoryHasError for each module entry, flagging any that report an error. It cross-checks ibmSystemPhysicalMemoryIsActive and ibmSystemPhysicalMemoryPoweredOn to confirm all expected modules are online after a reboot, and inspects ibmSystemPhysicalMemoryMemoryType/ibmSystemPhysicalMemoryTypeDetail along with ibmSystemPhysicalMemoryTotalWidth/DataWidth to validate that a replacement module matches the server's supported memory configuration.
What Can Be Monitored
- per-module active/power state
- per-module error status
- memory module type and form factor
- data width / total width
- installed memory inventory
