All MIBs › IBM-MIB
Category: Textual Conventions and Registries, Vendor: IBM
Description: IBM root MIB defining the top-level OID structure and enterprise registration for IBM SNMP management modules.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is IBM-MIB?
IBM-MIB is the root enterprise MIB module that establishes the top-level OID arc under which all of IBM's SNMP management modules are registered. Rather than exposing monitorable runtime data itself, it defines organizational subtrees such as research, agents, architecture, and product divisions that other IBM MIBs build upon. As a pure registration/structural module it has no direct role in reporting hardware or software status such as uptime, temperature, or CPU load. It has no functional dependency on other MIBs beyond the standard SMI enterprise numbering conventions defined by IANA. It is typically encountered only indirectly, as tools resolve the IBM-MIB OID tree when parsing or cataloging other IBM product-specific MIBs.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IBM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- vendor-neutral registration MIB, not tied to a specific device; applies to any IBM-branded SNMP agent
Monitoring Examples
There is no runtime monitoring scenario here: sample_objects like ibm, ibmResearch, ibmAgents, ibmArchitecture, and ibmProd are pure OID subtree identifiers used to organize IBM's enterprise namespace. An administrator or MIB compiler would reference this module only to resolve the numeric OID prefix for other IBM-specific MIBs, not to poll live values. No SNMP GET against these nodes would return meaningful management data.
