Category: Protocol: DHCP, Vendor: Infoblox

Description: Infoblox MIB covering configuration and statistics monitoring for the DHCPv6 service on Infoblox DDI appliances.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is IB-DHCPV6ONE-MIB?

IB-DHCPV6ONE-MIB is an Infoblox proprietary MIB for the DHCPv6 service running on Infoblox DDI (DNS/DHCP/IPAM) appliances, part of the vendor's "One" MIB family. It exposes a subnet table describing configured IPv6 DHCP subnets alongside cumulative protocol counters for DHCPv6 message exchange, covering solicits, requests, advertises, replies, renews, rebinds, and releases, plus dynamic DNS update statistics. This makes it primarily a software/service-performance monitoring MIB: administrators track solicit and reply counters to confirm the DHCPv6 service is actively servicing client lease requests, and a stall in reply counts relative to request counts can reveal a service or address-pool exhaustion problem. It is Infoblox-specific and complements the vendor's broader platform-health MIB and other Infoblox "One" MIBs for full appliance monitoring, though it has no formal dependency on IETF DHCP MIBs. It is deployed on Infoblox Grid appliances providing enterprise DHCPv6 and IPAM services, and administrators typically complete an IB-DHCPV6ONE-MIB download from Infoblox support to compile it alongside the vendor's other "One" MIB family modules.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IB-DHCPV6ONE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Infoblox DDI appliance (DHCPv6 service)

Monitoring Examples

Polling ibDHCPv6SubnetTable/ibDHCPv6SubnetEntry surfaces each configured IPv6 subnet's network address and mask, while ibDhcpv6TotalNoOfRequests versus ibDhcpv6TotalNoOfReplies under ibDHCPv6Statistics reveals whether the DHCPv6 service is successfully answering client requests; a growing gap between the two counters indicates lease-assignment failures.

What Can Be Monitored

  • DHCPv6 subnet configuration
  • DHCPv6 solicit/request/reply counts
  • DHCPv6 renew/rebind counts
  • DHCPv6 release counts
  • DDNS update statistics

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using ibDhcpv6TotalNoOfSolicits OID:

Select an Infoblox DDI appliance (DHCPv6 One service) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type ibDhcpv6TotalNoOfSolicits into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. This variable indicates the number of solicit messages received. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
