Category: Technology: High Availability, Vendor: Siemens

Description: Hiplex high-availability application framework MIB for monitoring application failover and cluster state in Siemens Hiplex systems.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HiplexAF-MIB?

HiplexAF-MIB is a Siemens (sni enterprise branch) MIB for the Hiplex Application Framework, a high-availability clustering layer used on Siemens/Fujitsu-Siemens host environments to coordinate application failover across multiple hosts. It exposes cluster/version identity objects and a host table describing each participating host's operational state, pending event identifiers, and operator role within the failover cluster. It monitors software/cluster status rather than physical hardware, specifically tracking each host's state indicator, pending event IDs, and operator role so administrators can confirm a healthy active/standby posture and detect a host that has dropped out of the cluster. As a Siemens product MIB under the sni tree, it has no dependency on standard IETF hardware MIBs, being purely an application-layer status MIB. It is typically deployed in Siemens Hiplex high-availability host clusters running critical batch or transaction-processing workloads, and administrators can download the HiplexAF-MIB file to load it into their cluster monitoring tools.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HiplexAF-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Siemens Hiplex host cluster node

Monitoring Examples

Polling hiplexAFHostTable/hiplexAFHostEntry rows (indexed via hiplexAFHostTabNum) exposes hiplexAFHostName, hiplexAFHostStateInd, and hiplexAFHostOperatorRole for each cluster member; an operator would watch hiplexAFHostStateInd across all hosts to confirm the expected number are active, with an unexpected state change signaling a failover event or lost node.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-host cluster state
  • host operator role
  • pending host events
  • application framework version
  • terminal host binding
