What Is HUAWEI-VLAN-IF-MIB?
This is a Huawei private MIB for managing Layer 3 VLAN interfaces, commonly called switch virtual interfaces (SVIs), which give a VLAN an IP-routable presence on a Huawei switch or router. It exposes configuration data covering VLAN-to-interface mapping, IP addressing, and routing-related settings for these virtual interfaces, effectively bridging Layer 2 VLAN segmentation with Layer 3 IP routing on the device. Its monitoring value is primarily configuration/state visibility rather than hardware sensors, confirming a VLAN interface exists and is correctly bound to the right VLAN ID, verifying its assigned IP address/mask, and detecting a VLAN interface that is administratively down or missing its expected IP configuration, which would explain routing failures for that VLAN's hosts. It is built on Huawei's broader Fix-Net MIB baseline and complements standard IF-MIB interface objects with VLAN-specific extensions. It is deployed on Huawei enterprise/campus switches and routers wherever inter-VLAN routing via SVIs is configured. Engineers can download the HUAWEI-VLAN-IF-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HUAWEI-VLAN-IF-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
What Can Be Monitored
- VLAN interface (SVI) existence and VLAN ID binding
- VLAN interface IP address/mask
- VLAN interface admin/operational status
Supported Devices
- Huawei enterprise/campus switch
- Huawei router with VLAN routing (SVI) support
Monitoring Examples
No specific object names were captured for this MIB, so exact table/column names cannot be cited; based on the module's purpose, an administrator would expect to poll a VLAN-interface table keyed by VLAN ID to retrieve each SVI's operational/admin status and bound IP address. A VLAN interface reporting an operational-down state or an unexpected/missing IP address would explain why hosts on that VLAN cannot reach other subnets. This kind of check is typically done alongside standard ifTable/ifXTable polling to correlate the Layer 3 VLAN interface with its underlying Layer 2 VLAN membership.
