Description: Huawei VGMP (VRRP Group Management Protocol) MIB for managing synchronized VRRP group failover on Huawei firewalls.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HUAWEI-VGMP-MIB?

HUAWEI-VGMP-MIB is a Huawei enterprise MIB for VRRP Group Management Protocol (VGMP), a Huawei extension used mainly on firewalls to synchronize the failover state of multiple VRRP groups together so that all traffic for a redundant pair switches over as one coordinated unit rather than group-by-group. It exposes status and configuration objects reflecting VGMP group membership and the current active/standby state of the synchronized group set. Its monitoring value is centered on high-availability software state: confirming which unit in an active/standby firewall or router pair currently holds the active role, and detecting unexpected or flapping state transitions that could indicate a failover problem. It depends conceptually on standard VRRP (RFC 3768) and extends it with Huawei-specific group synchronization semantics. Deployment context is Huawei firewalls or routers deployed in active/standby high-availability pairs, commonly at network edges or data center gateways. Engineers can download the HUAWEI-VGMP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HUAWEI-VGMP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Huawei firewall
  • Huawei router in HA pair

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll the VGMP group state object to confirm which device in an HA pair is currently Active versus Standby, and an unexpected or repeated state transition would reveal a failover event or instability in the synchronized VRRP group set, prompting investigation into the HA link or underlying VRRP groups.

What Can Be Monitored

  • VGMP group active/standby state
  • VRRP group synchronization status
  • failover state transitions
