Category: Routing Protocols, Vendor: Huawei

Description: Huawei RIPv2 extensions MIB providing Huawei-specific enhancements to RIP route management and interface-level configuration.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HUAWEI-RIPV2-EXT-MIB?

HUAWEI-RIPV2-EXT-MIB is a Huawei extension to standard RIPv2 (Routing Information Protocol version 2) management, adding per-process and per-VPN-instance configuration and status since a device may run multiple RIP processes but the standard RIP MIB only supports describing one. It exposes configuration/status data through hwRip2ProcInstTable, representing each RIP process instance and its associated VPN instance, in addition to the module's SMI conformance branches. Its monitoring value is software/protocol status: confirming a given RIP process instance exists, is active, and is correctly bound to the intended VPN instance, which matters in multi-VPN environments where a RIP process could otherwise be missing or misassigned. It explicitly extends the standard IETF RIPv2-MIB to add this multi-process, multi-VPN-instance granularity. It is deployed on Huawei routers running multiple RIP processes across multiple VPN instances, such as MPLS L3VPN PE routers. Engineers can download the HUAWEI-RIPV2-EXT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HUAWEI-RIPV2-EXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Huawei routers running multiple RIP processes/VPN instances (MPLS L3VPN PE routers)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll hwRip2ProcInstTable to enumerate each configured RIP process instance and confirm which VPN instance it is bound to, verifying that the correct RIP process is running for a given customer VPN. hwRip2Conformance, hwRip2Groups, and hwRip2Compliances are standard SMI conformance statements rather than runtime monitoring data, so they wouldn't be polled for operational status.

What Can Be Monitored

  • RIP process instance existence and status
  • VPN-instance to RIP-process association
  • per-process RIP configuration
