Description: Huawei protection switching MIB for managing 1+1 and 1:N protection groups and automatic protection switching (APS).

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HUAWEI-PROTECTION-MIB?

HUAWEI-PROTECTION-MIB (documented internally as the IPMB Aiu Protect MIB) manages protection-switching functionality on Huawei transport/aggregation equipment, covering 1+1 and 1:N protection groups plus smart-link monitoring for automatic protection switching (APS). It exposes protection-group configuration, current active-path/working-vs-protection state, and switch-event notifications. Its monitoring value is fault/redundancy health: confirming traffic is running on the intended working path and detecting when a group has switched to its protection path reveals a line or interface fault that triggered an automatic failover, which is effectively a software-driven hardware-resiliency status check. It reflects standard APS/line-protection concepts (as used in transport network protection switching such as MSP/linear APS) implemented as a Huawei-specific private MIB alongside Ethernet smart-link ring monitoring. It is deployed on Huawei transport/aggregation devices (e.g. PTN/MSTP or Ethernet access nodes) that rely on line or link protection for resiliency. Engineers can download the HUAWEI-PROTECTION-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HUAWEI-PROTECTION-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Huawei transport/aggregation network devices (e.g., PTN/MSTP, Ethernet access)

Monitoring Examples

No sample object names were provided for this module. In general, an operator would poll a protection group's current path-selection state to confirm traffic is running on the designated working path rather than the protection path. A recorded transition to the protection path, or an associated protection-switch notification, indicates a fault on the working line or interface triggered an automatic protection switch, which the operator would then investigate to restore the primary path and re-establish full redundancy.

What Can Be Monitored

  • protection group status
  • active working vs. protection path
  • protection switch events
  • smart link ring state
