Category: Protocol: 802.1X, Vendor: Huawei
Description: Extends 802.1X management with Huawei-specific authentication modes and per-port session details on Huawei switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HUAWEI-8021x-EXT-MIB?
HUAWEI-8021x-EXT-MIB is a Huawei proprietary extension to the standard IEEE 802.1X port-based network access control MIB, adding Huawei-specific authentication modes and per-port session detail on Huawei switches and wireless access equipment. It exposes extended configuration and state data about 802.1X authentication, including additional authentication modes beyond the base standard and richer per-port session information used to control link-layer access and identity verification, particularly for wireless users as noted in the module description. Its monitoring value is centered on authentication/software status: administrators can check per-port 802.1X session state to confirm whether a client has been successfully authenticated, detect ports stuck in an unauthenticated or failed state, and verify which authentication mode is active on a given port or wireless interface. It explicitly extends the standard IEEE8021-PAE-MIB / IEEE 802.1X framework rather than replacing it. It is typically deployed on Huawei enterprise switches and WLAN access controllers enforcing 802.1X network access control for wired and wireless clients. Engineers can download the HUAWEI-8021x-EXT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HUAWEI-8021x-EXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Huawei enterprise switch
- Huawei WLAN access controller
Monitoring Examples
Since no sample_objects were provided for this MIB, exact object names cannot be grounded from source data, but consistent with its description an administrator would poll a per-port extended 802.1X session table to check the active Huawei-specific authentication mode and current authorization state for each port or wireless client. A port showing an extended-mode authentication repeatedly failing or reverting to an unauthenticated state would reveal a misconfigured RADIUS/authentication server integration or credential issue. This MIB should be read alongside the standard IEEE 802.1X PAE MIB objects it extends.
What Can Be Monitored
- 802.1X port authentication state
- authentication mode in use
- per-port session details
- authorized/unauthorized client status

The index of this table is dot1xPaePortNumber (defined in dot1xPaePortTable). This version supports authentication based on the port or service port; therefore, dot1xPaePortNumber indicates the ID of a port or service port. When the input value exceeds the maximum ID of the service port, dot1xPaePortNumber is treated as ifIndex. The range of the service port IDs depends on the version. This table supports the creation of the port table. After the port table is created, the 802.1x authentication is bound to the port. The create operation is as follows: Specify the ID of the port to which the 802.1x authentication needs to be bound. Set hwDot1xPortRowStatus to createAndGo(4), and issue the set operation. Optionally specify hwDot1xPortMacControl. However, if the ID of the port is the ID of the service port, hwDot1xPortMacControl cannot be specified. hwDot1xPortMacControl cannot be issued independently, and it must be issued together with hwDot1xPortRowStatus during the create operation. | |

This leaf can be issued with parameters during the create operation. This function supports port-based rather than service-port-based configuration. When hwDot1xPortMacControl is set to enable(1), only the packets whose source MAC address is the MAC address of the authorized user can reach the network side. This leaf does not support the modify operation. Options: 1. enable(1) -indicates the MAC-based control function is enabled 2. disable(2) -indicates the MAC-based control function is disabled Default: disable(2) |

| INT hwDot1xAutoDetect | 1.3.6.1.4.1.2011.5.22.1.3.5 | INTEGER | read-write | Indicates the status of the auto-detect function of the device. After the 802.1x auto-detect function is enabled, the system automatically detects the port status and requests the user authentication. Options: 1. enabled(1) -indicates the auto-detect function of the device is enabled 2. disabled(2) -indicates the auto-detect function of the device is disabled Default: disable(2) |
| INT hwDot1xIntermittentBlinkingProtection | 1.3.6.1.4.1.2011.5.22.1.3.6 | INTEGER | read-write | Indicates the intermittent blinking protection function, which is used to reduce the duration of service interruption caused by port intermittent blinking. After the intermittent blinking protection function is enabled, the system does not force the 802.1x user to go offline when the port is down. In this case, if the handshake function is already enabled, the system detects the user by using the handshake mechanism; if the handshake function is disabled, the system waits for the duration of keepalive interval x number of handshake failures, and then forces the user to go offline if the port is still down. After the intermittent blinking protection function is enabled, the count of user online duration may be incorrect. Therefore, this function is applicable to the provisioning of services with the monthly flat rate rather than in the duration-based charging mode. Indicates the status of the intermittent blinking protection function of the device. Options: 1. enabled(1) -indicates the intermittent blinking protection function is enabled 2. disabled(2) -indicates the intermittent blinking protection function is disabled Default: disable(2) |
