Description: Manages web-based (portal) authentication sessions, user redirection, and server policy on HP/Comware devices.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HPN-ICF-WEB-AUTHENTICATION-MIB?
HPN-ICF-WEB-AUTHENTICATION-MIB is an HP/Comware ICF MIB dedicated to sending SNMP traps for web-based (portal) authentication events, where clients are redirected to a login page before gaining network access. It exposes trap objects carrying the client's VLAN ID, MAC address, and a reason/action code describing the authentication event. Its monitoring role is entirely event/fault notification for a software authentication service: administrators use these traps to see when portal authentication attempts fail or clients are redirected, helping diagnose captive-portal/NAC issues in near-real time rather than by polling steady-state counters. It is a vendor-specific companion to whatever portal/AAA server infrastructure (e.g., RADIUS) the device integrates with, though that dependency isn't detailed in its own description. It is deployed on HP/H3C Comware switches or gateways implementing web/portal-based network access control. Engineers can download the HPN-ICF-WEB-AUTHENTICATION-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-WEB-AUTHENTICATION-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- HP/H3C Comware switch or gateway with portal/web authentication
Monitoring Examples
hpnicfWaTrap notifications carry hpnicfWaClientMacAddr, hpnicfWaVlanID, hpnicfWaReasonCode, and hpnicfWaActionCode whenever a web-authentication event occurs. An administrator watching these traps would see a spike of failure hpnicfWaReasonCode values on a particular hpnicfWaVlanID as a sign that the portal server for that VLAN's clients is misconfigured or unreachable. Because this MIB is trap-oriented, there are no standing counters to poll -- visibility comes from consuming the notification stream itself.
What Can Be Monitored
- web authentication trap events
- client MAC address in auth event
- VLAN ID of authenticating client
- authentication reason/action code
