Last Updated: 2004-12-09
Category: Protocol: VRRP, Vendor: H3C/HH3C, Vendor: HP/HPE
Description: Extends standard VRRP MIB with HP/Comware-specific load-balancing and authentication enhancements.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HPN-ICF-VRRP-EXT-MIB?
HPN-ICF-VRRP-EXT-MIB extends the standard IETF VRRP MIB with HP/H3C Comware-specific enhancements for the Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol, adding vendor features such as load-balancing across multiple virtual routers and enhanced authentication options. As an extension module it augments rather than replaces core VRRP state, so its data covers router-redundancy configuration and operational role. Its main monitoring value is software/protocol status: which router in a VRRP group currently holds master versus backup role, whether preemption and authentication are configured as intended, and whether load-balancing across virtual routers is functioning, all critical to detecting a failover event or a misconfigured redundancy group before it causes an outage. It has an explicit dependency on the standard VRRP MIB (RFC 2787/5798), since it only adds objects on top of that base protocol schema. It is deployed in enterprise and campus networks using HP/H3C Comware routers or Layer 3 switches configured for first-hop gateway redundancy. Engineers can download the HPN-ICF-VRRP-EXT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-VRRP-EXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- HP/H3C Comware routers and Layer 3 switches
Monitoring Examples
No sample objects were provided for this module, so specific object names cannot be confirmed from the source data; in practice, though, a network engineer using this MIB would poll the underlying VRRP group's master/backup state and priority together with this extension's load-balancing and authentication settings to confirm a redundancy group failed over correctly, rather than silently losing its backup path.
What Can Be Monitored
- VRRP group role (master/backup)
- VRRP group priority/preemption
- load-balancing status across virtual routers
- authentication configuration
