Description: Manages generic tunnel interface parameters including encapsulation type and remote endpoint on HP/Comware devices.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HPN-ICF-TUNNEL-MIB?
HPN-ICF-TUNNEL-MIB is an HP/H3C Comware private MIB for configuring and monitoring generic IP tunnel interfaces (e.g., GRE, IPv6-in-IPv4, or VXLAN-style tunnels). It exposes per-tunnel-interface configuration such as encapsulation method, hop limit, security mode, ToS/flow-label marking, and local/remote endpoint addresses, along with a dedicated group for VXLAN tunnel configuration. As a configuration- and status-oriented MIB, it lets an administrator confirm each tunnel interface's operational parameters and endpoint reachability settings, effectively monitoring the software-defined identity and encapsulation health of each virtual tunnel interface on the device. It works alongside the standard IF-MIB (tunnels appear as interfaces) and IP-MIB address types for the local/remote endpoint addressing it references. It is deployed on HP/H3C Comware routers and switches that use tunneling for VPN overlays, IPv6 transition, or VXLAN-based data center fabrics. Engineers can download the HPN-ICF-TUNNEL-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-TUNNEL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- HP/H3C Comware routers and switches with tunnel/VXLAN interfaces
Monitoring Examples
An operator walks hpnicfTunnelIfTable, indexed per tunnel interface, checking hpnicfTunnelIfEncapsMethod to confirm a tunnel is using the expected encapsulation (e.g., GRE vs. VXLAN) and comparing hpnicfTunnelIfLocalInetAddress/hpnicfTunnelIfRemoteInetAddress against the intended endpoints. If hpnicfTunnelIfHopLimit or hpnicfTunnelIfEncapsLimit is set unexpectedly low, packets may be silently dropped in transit, which this table would help diagnose. Checking hpnicfTunnelVxlanConfigGroup alongside hpnicfTunnelInetConfigTable helps confirm VXLAN tunnel endpoints are correctly provisioned in a data center fabric.
What Can Be Monitored
- tunnel encapsulation method
- local/remote tunnel endpoint addresses
- hop limit/TTL and encapsulation limit
- ToS/flow-label marking
- VXLAN tunnel configuration

The agent need not support setting this object to createAndWait or notInService since there are no other writable objects in this table, and writable objects in rows of corresponding tables such as the hpnicfTunnelIfTable may be modified while this row is active. To create a row in this table, the management station should set hpnicfTunnelInetConfigSlot, hpnicfTunnelInetConfigSubSlot, hpnicfTunnelInetConfigTunnNum, and set hpnicfTunnelInetConfigStatus to createAndGo. Creating a row in this table will cause an interface index to be assigned by the agent in an implementation-dependent manner, and corresponding rows will be instantiated in the ifTable and the hpnicfTunnelIfTable. The status of this row will become active as soon as the agent assigns the interface index, regardless of whether the interface is operationally up. Deleting a row in this table will likewise delete the corresponding row in the ifTable and in the hpnicfTunnelIfTable. |

The agent need not support setting this object to createAndWait or notInService since there are no other writable objects in this table, and writable objects in rows of corresponding tables such as the hpnicfTunnelEviTable may be modified while this row is active. Creating a row in this table will cause an interface index to be assigned by the agent in an implementation-dependent manner, and corresponding rows will be instantiated in the ifTable. The status of this row will become active as soon as the agent assigns the interface index, regardless of whether the interface is operationally up. Deleting a row in this table will likewise delete the corresponding row in the ifTable. |

The value for each interface sub-layer must remain constant at least from one re-initialization of the entity's network management system to the next re-initialization. |
| IPt hpnicfTunnelNvgreIfAddressType | 1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.14.11.15.2.53.1.1.11.1.3 | InetAddressType | read-create | The type of address in the corresponding hpnicfTunnelNvgreIfLocalAddr and hpnicfTunnelNvgreIfRemoteAddr objects. |
| IP hpnicfTunnelNvgreIfLocalAddr | 1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.14.11.15.2.53.1.1.11.1.4 | InetAddress | read-create | The address of the local endpoint of the tunnel (i.e., the source address used in the outer IP header). |
| IP hpnicfTunnelNvgreIfRemoteAddr | 1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.14.11.15.2.53.1.1.11.1.5 | InetAddress | read-create | The address of the remote endpoint of the tunnel (i.e., the destination address used in the outer IP header). |
| ROW hpnicfTunnelNvgreIfStatus | 1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.14.11.15.2.53.1.1.11.1.6 | RowStatus | read-create | The status of this row, by which new entries may be created, or old entries deleted from this table. The agent need not support setting this object to createAndWait or notInService since there are no other writable objects in this table, and writable objects in rows of corresponding tables such as the hpnicfTunnelNvgreIfTable may be modified while this row is active. |
