Description: Defines enterprise-specific SNMP trap notifications for system and network events on HP/Comware devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HPN-ICF-TRAP-MIB?

HPN-ICF-TRAP-MIB is an HP/H3C Comware enterprise MIB that defines the SNMP trap (notification) types generated by routers, switches, and related network products in that product family. Rather than exposing polled counters or tables, it standardizes the format and variable bindings of alert messages the device sends when significant system or network events occur. It is used specifically to monitor the health and status of the device by surfacing asynchronous fault and state-change events, such as hardware failures, interface state transitions, configuration changes, or security-related occurrences, that operators would otherwise have to detect by polling. Because it is a trap-only module, it typically depends on lower-layer notification infrastructure such as SNMPv2-TM and RFC 3411 framework MIBs for delivery. It is deployed on HP/H3C Comware-based routers and switches, where HPN-ICF-TRAP-MIB SNMP monitoring configures a network management system to receive and correlate these traps for real-time alerting.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-TRAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP/H3C Comware routers
  • HP/H3C Comware switches

Monitoring Examples

As a trap-definitions module, HPN-ICF-TRAP-MIB has no runtime data tables or counters of its own to poll; instead an NMS registers as a trap receiver and reacts when the device emits one of the enterprise-specific notifications defined here. A realistic scenario is the NMS logging a trap indicating a hardware or interface fault on the chassis and triggering an alert workflow rather than discovering the issue via periodic polling. Because the module description notes objects may be product-specific, the exact set of traps that fire depends on the particular Comware hardware model in use.
