Description: Manages Remote Configuration Protocol (RCP) sessions for command execution on HP/Comware device clusters.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HPN-ICF-RCP-MIB?
HPN-ICF-RCP-MIB is an HP Networking (Comware/H3C) vendor MIB for managing the Remote Configuration Protocol (RCP) server, a facility used to execute remote configuration/command sessions against clustered devices. It exposes server enable status, connection and rule timeout settings (with their configurable maximum values), the maximum and current number of concurrent connections, and load-balance group ID range limits, alongside counts of total users and total client IPs currently using the service. For hardware/software status monitoring, the current-versus-maximum connection count is directly useful for detecting when the RCP server is nearing its connection capacity, and the total-users/total-client-IPs counters help an operator confirm how heavily the remote-configuration service is being used, flagging unexpected load or a runaway client. It is a vendor-specific service-management MIB with no strong stated dependency on other standard MIBs. It is deployed on HP/H3C Comware devices acting as cluster management points where remote configuration sessions to member devices are coordinated through RCP. Engineers can download the HPN-ICF-RCP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-RCP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- HP/H3C Comware cluster management device
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would check hpnicfRCPServerEnableStatus to confirm the RCP service is running, then compare hpnicfRCPServerCurConn against hpnicfRCPServerMaxConn to see how close the server is to its connection ceiling. The hpnicfRCPTotalUsers and hpnicfRCPTotalClientIPs counters would be polled to track how many distinct users/clients are currently using the service, and hpnicfRCPConnTimeout/hpnicfRCPRuleTimeout (versus their max-value counterparts hpnicfRCPConnTimeoutMaxValue/hpnicfRCPRuleTimeoutMaxValue) would be reviewed to confirm timeout settings are within supported bounds after a configuration change.
What Can Be Monitored
- RCP server enable status
- current vs. maximum connections
- connection/rule timeout settings
- total connected users
- total distinct client IPs
