Category: Technology: Routing, Vendor: H3C/HH3C

Description: H3C MIB for Policy-Based Routing (PBR) managing route policies that forward packets based on match criteria.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is H3C-PBR-MIB?

H3C-PBR-MIB is an H3C proprietary MIB for managing Policy-Based Routing (PBR), a feature that forwards IP packets according to administrator-defined policies rather than standard destination-based routing table lookups. It primarily exposes next-hop tracking and trap-related objects, including next-hop address type and address, a trap-enable flag, and a set of trap/notification objects used to signal changes in PBR next-hop reachability. It is mainly a configuration/fault-notification MIB rather than a rich statistics MIB, letting an administrator be alerted via trap when a policy-routed next hop becomes unreachable, which reflects the software routing/forwarding health of the device. It is an H3C-proprietary extension to standard IP routing concepts with no direct IETF MIB dependency, though it interacts with underlying IP routing (IP-MIB/routing table) constructs. It is deployed on H3C routers and Layer 3 switches configured with policy-based routing rules. Engineers can download the H3C-PBR-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in H3C-PBR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C router
  • H3C Layer 3 switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would enable h3cPBRNexthopTrapEnabled and then rely on h3cPBRTraps notifications carrying h3cPBRNexthopAddrType and h3cPBRNexthopAddr to learn immediately when a policy-routed next hop becomes unreachable, rather than polling. This is primarily a trap/notification-driven MIB with only a handful of scalar next-hop objects, so ongoing statistical polling is limited compared to other MIBs in this family.

What Can Be Monitored

  • policy-routed next-hop address
  • next-hop reachability trap enable state
  • next-hop unreachability notifications
