Description: Manages MPLS VPN BGP route targets, import/export policies, and VRF routing tables on HP/Comware PE routers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HPN-ICF-MPLS-VPN-BGP-MIB?

HPN-ICF-MPLS-VPN-BGP-MIB is an HP/Comware ICF MIB managing MPLS/BGP Layer 3 VPN configuration on Provider Edge (PE) routers, covering VRF (Virtual Routing and Forwarding) instances, route distinguishers, route-target import/export policy, and per-VRF route redistribution. It exposes per-VRF configuration data including network prefixes, redistribution flags for connected/static/RIP routes, and route-count thresholds. Its monitoring role centers on VPN routing-table health and capacity: administrators track how many routes are installed in a VRF against configured high-threshold and maximum-route limits to catch a VRF approaching its route-scale limit before it starts dropping or rejecting routes. It directly implements the MPLS/BGP VPN architecture from the IETF draft-ietf-mpls-arch referenced in its description and depends on the underlying BGP and MPLS LSR MIBs for full VPN operation. It is deployed on HP/H3C Comware PE routers providing Layer 3 MPLS VPN services to enterprise or service-provider customers. Engineers can download the HPN-ICF-MPLS-VPN-BGP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-MPLS-VPN-BGP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP/H3C Comware PE (Provider Edge) router

Monitoring Examples

An administrator polls hpnicfMplsVpnVrfConfTable/hpnicfMplsVpnVrfConfEntry for a given hpnicfMplsVpnVrfName, checking hpnicfMplsVpnVrfRtDistinguisher and hpnicfMplsVpnVrfNetPrefix against expected VPN topology. Watching hpnicfMplsVpnVrfConfHighRtThreshold versus the actual installed route count reveals whether a customer VRF is nearing hpnicfMplsVpnVrfConfMaxRts, which would otherwise silently start rejecting new prefixes. hpnicfMplsVpnVrfIpRtRedistributeConn/Static/Rip flags let the admin confirm the intended redistribution policy is actually enabled for that VRF.

What Can Be Monitored

  • VRF route distinguisher and prefixes
  • installed route count vs threshold/max
  • redistribution policy per protocol
  • route-target import/export configuration
