What Is HPN-ICF-FC-PING-MIB?
HPN-ICF-FC-PING-MIB is an HP/H3C Comware private MIB providing Fibre Channel "ping" (Echo) connectivity-test functionality for Storage Area Network path diagnostics. It exposes objects to configure and initiate FC ping tests -- target VSAN, address, packet count, payload size, timeout, and delay -- plus administrative and result status for each test. As a diagnostic/software-status MIB, it is used to actively verify FC fabric reachability and measure round-trip health between initiator and target, rather than passively monitoring chassis environmentals. It depends on underlying Fibre Channel/VSAN addressing concepts and the vendor's ICF (Intelligent Comware Framework) MIB structure. It is typically deployed by SAN administrators on HP/H3C Comware-based FC switches to proactively test and troubleshoot fabric connectivity issues, often loading the module into an HPN-ICF-FC-PING-MIB MIB Browser session to inspect test objects directly.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-FC-PING-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- HP/H3C Comware-based Fibre Channel (FC) SAN switches
Monitoring Examples
An administrator can configure a test row in hpnicfFcPingTable via hpnicfFcPingVsan, hpnicfFcPingAddressType, and hpnicfFcPingAddress, set hpnicfFcPingPacketCount and hpnicfFcPingTimeout, then set hpnicfFcPingAdminStatus to start the test. Repeated timeouts or high hpnicfFcPingDelay values returned for a given VSAN/address would indicate a degraded or broken path in the Fibre Channel fabric to that target.
What Can Be Monitored
- FC ping test configuration (VSAN, target address)
- packet count/payload size/timeout settings
- test admin/oper status
- round-trip delay/age interval
